description?Rita Camilleri was born in Malta and arrived in Australia in 1939, at age 15 years. Prior to that, her father had been in Australia for twelve years, working to save enough money to bring his family to join him. Rita's father owned a market garden in Pendle Hill, and when Rita married at age 18, she and her husband operated another market garden nearby. During the Second World War, Rita worked at the Bonds Cotton Mills, earning five pounds per week in the card room.
